CAMASS® Calibration technology for gas flow
When using technologically sophisticated systems to measure and control gases, calibration becomes the decisive factor for success. In order to ensure optimum measuring and control accuracy, each COMBIMASS® mass flow meter and VACOMASS® air distribution system is precisely calibrated in the CAMASS® Calibration Centre under real operating conditions.


In contrast to liquid media, the properties of flowing gases are far more dependent upon the operating conditions, the gas composition and the actual flow ratios in the pipeline. If these parameters are not taken into account, the measuring results will be considerably limited.

Therefore, in order to be able to guarantee optimum measuring and control accuracy, each individual
COMBIMASS® and VACOMASS® system can be calibrated under real plant conditions before delivery.
To do this, the pressure, temperature and load status which will later be encountered in the plant are precisely simulated with appropriate gas mixtures. For difficult applications, corresponding pipe routes are actually reproduced upon request.

In order to guarantee optimum accuracy, measuring sections, standard orifices and precision inclined-tube gauges, pre-tested by the Bureau of Standards, are used as reference. In addition,
calibrated pressure and temperature transmitters enable precise determination of the local operating conditions and volumetric flows. All reference equipement is tested by an independent laboratory once a year according to the ISO Quality Control System.

Additionally, laser doppler anemometry, an optical, non-calibrated measuring process with an accuracy of +/- 0.2 %, is the standard for reference measurements. The latest computer and simulation programs, based on decades of experience, are used to calculate calibration data and define the correction factors for temperature compensation. The data is transferred to the measuring system without any loss of accuracy.

Following different types of calibration for COMBIMASS® and VACOMASS® products are available:

Type 1: Standard-Calibration of a single-point COMBIMASS® flow meter under actual operating conditions in our CAMASS® Calibration Lab. This standard calibration will be done under the assumption that sufficient inlet and outlet straight pipe runs are available for installation of the COMBIMASS® flow meter. Process parameters like temperature, pressure, installation details of piping and gas composition will be considered to achieve a high accuracy of flow metering.
Type 2: Calibration of the COMBIMASS® multi-point flow meter system under actual operating conditions in our CAMASS® Calibration Lab. Process parameters like temperature, pressure, installation details of piping and gas composition will be considered to achieve a high accuracy of flow metering.
Type 3: Calibration of a COMBIMASS®/VACOMASS® flowmeter under consideration of the actual piping isometry (scale 1:1). Process parameters like temperature, pressure, installation details of piping and gas composition will be considered to achieve a high accuracy of flow metering.
Type 4: Calibration of a COMBIMASS® flowmeter in combination with the COMBIMASS® flow conditioner as a complete unit to reduce/eliminate influences due to flow pulsations or flow swirls. Process parameters like temperature, pressure, installation details of piping and gas composition will be considered to achieve a high accuracy of flow metering.
Type 5: Calibration of a COMBIMASS® flowmeter as a real gas calibration (calibration loop is filled with real gas). Process parameters like temperature, pressure and installation details of piping will be considered to achieve a high accuracy of flow metering.
Type 6: Calibration takes place in comparison with master calibration devices (and according to contractual requirements) on an DAkkS-certified (German accredited Institute) Calibration Lab using measuring equipment, which is regularly and traceable recalibrated by the PTB (Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt).
Type 7: Calibration of a VACOMASS® flowmeter under consideration of the influence of closed placed control valves and the flow profile distortion, when the valve is closing/opening. Process parameters like temperature, pressure, installation details of piping and gas composition can be considered to achieve a high accuracy of flow metering.
